Things I'm Thankful For

*an athletic, loving husband * two talented, handsome sons * versatile, supportive parents and in-laws * engaging, intelligent siblings and siblings-in-law * equally talented, handsome, beautiful, intelligent nieces and nephews * fabulous, fun friends * tireless, deeply-spiritual missionaries (who are also great friends!) * a warm, vital church family * intense, dedicated ministers * generations of soldiers, sailors, airmen, and all those associated with our defense who have given so much for the peace and freedom we enjoy * fearless moral leaders, and more...
for a house and vehicles * pets * plenty of food * clean water * flickering fires * times to get together and share * dreams * our jobs * the promise of Christian daughters-in-law * a safe place to worship * time to read and study * candles * cold weather * changing seasons, and so much more...
It's time to put some food together and drive over to the folks' house. This year it's only a ten minute versus a twelve hour drive! So nice! I spent yesterday over there helping set up the table and buying last-minute groceries. Mom and I printed her photos for Christmas newsletters and we have a goal to get those out this weekend. We're having the following menu, cooked with healthy options as much as possible:

Roast Turkey and Baked Ham
Mashed Potatoes Spaghetti Squash Green Beans with Onions
Broccoli Salad Fruit Salad Tossed Salad
Dressing Turkey Gravy Yeast Rolls
Pomegranate Tea Coffee
Pumpkin Pie with whipped cream Chocolate Chunk Cookies

Mom and I have pre-planned to eat sensibly and we will go for a walk after lunch. We hope the guys will want to play some games like Mexican Train or Scrabble. Mother has a new orange tablecloth and a ceramic turkey centerpiece. She will scatter candy corn around the table. It will be cute. She has plenty of fine china and silver to serve the meal. It should be a "gala" affair.
David has gone to run the Boulevard Bolt 5 mile race. Hopefully, his knee will hold up. This is a test. [This just in: he came in 4th in his age group!]
The boys are both in, and Scott has brought his "baby" Lizzy. She is a pale shade of orange, almost more gray and white. Looks like a faded orange with white socks. She is so small and lightweight, and very curious about things. She hisses at our big old gray cat. He just tolerates her and tries to eat her food. She is gentle and very relaxed most of the time. Scott's having fun being a "daddy", and really cares for her well. Todd is feeling sick and probably needs a little TLC. I'll not win the "Mother of the Year" award this time around because I forgot to make up his bed. I'd thought about it once, but gotten so busy it didn't occur to me again until I woke with a start at 12:30 a.m. and rushed in there. He'd already made it up, and MIGHT forgive me if I make it up somehow...
More news after this great day is over!
I'm really looking forward to all the joys of family.
